Class Liaison Role

Each class at Southwell has a parent/caregiver identified as the class liaison person. This person acts as the intermediary between the classroom and the School/SSA. This role is filled at the beginning of each year with consultation with the classroom teacher. (It can be be filled by 2 people)

This is a vital role to achieving the SSA objectives of friendraising and fundraising within in the school community.

This role works best when it is actively carried out within your class by:

  • Promoting the SSA. It is hoped the class liaison person is able to attend the SSA meetings held twice a term on Sunday evenings 730pm in the dining room. (Dates always in Term Planner)
  • Welcome new families to the school within your class, maybe a phonecall to see how they are settling in,  and if they have any questions?
  • Timely ‘two way’ sharing of information between parents and SSA.
  • Actively supporting SSA events, encouraging others to do so.
  • Point parents in the right direction for resolving problems.
  • Encouraging the ‘community’ culture within the school, by arranging a coffee morning, potluck dinner, or dinner out for parents.
  • Maybe arranging a class gathering at the beginning/end of year for families to get to know each other.
  • Organising an end of year gift for the class teacher if parents are keen for this.

PLEASE NOTE: Any functions organized by the class liaison person must be “run past’ the Headmaster to ensure there is no clash with school events etc. This can be done by sending an email to the Headmaster.

By no means is this meant to be a ‘prescription’ for the class liaison role but more to give ideas of how the role can be fulfilled and what a vital role it is within our Southwell community.
