Southwell School Association (SSA)

The SSA is an incorporated association which was established to provide parents with an involvement in Southwell school life.

The main objectives of the SSA are:
  • To promote good fellowship amongst parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers and friends of the school.
  • To foster interest in and active support for the school.
  • To support the school in its various activities.
  • To provide a forum for lectures and discussions of general issues relevant to the welfare of the pupils of the school.
  • To foster the understanding of and support the role of independent schools within New Zealand.

The membership of the SSA consists of all parents/guardians of children currently enrolled at the school. A President is elected at the Annual General Meeting held in Term 1 each year.

SSA Meetings are held twice a term in the school dining room at 7:30pm Sunday evening.
Dates are on the term planner.
We welcome all parents to these meetings.
It is expected that Class Liaison’s try to attend all meetings.
The Headmaster attends meetings to allow for open dialogue.

Each class has at least one parent representative (Class Liaison) and their role is to be the link between the class parents/teacher and the SSA. They aim to foster the friendraising aspect of the SSA by arranging social gatherings for the class during the year and communicating with parents on upcoming SSA events.
The Class Liaison is determined at the beginning of each year in consultation with the classroom teacher.

  • New Parents Cocktail Function at the beginning of the Year
  • Southwell School Association Golf Day (at St Andrews Golf Course)
  • Southwell Fete (Saturday 2 April 2011)
Term2
  • School Disco for students (Friday 20 May 2011)
Term 3
  • Artex (12-14 August 2011)
  • Opera Stall - refreshments for sale at intermission when the Opera is on
Term 4
  • Southwell Centenary Weekend (4-6 November 2011)
  • Sausage Sizzle at Athletics Day
Other Fundraising projects that are SSA driven:
  • Stuck on You Labels
  • Entertainment Books
  • Scholastic Books in Junior/Middle School
  • Supporter Shirts
  • Christmas Cake Sales

The SSA have donated money to the school in recent years with which the school have purchased:
  • Pianos for practice rooms in PAC
  • Wooden tables/chairs around the school for children to sit at
  • Southwell Gazebos for use at sports events
  • Swimming Pool cover
  • Children's playground in the middle school
  • Sports equipment
